If you’ve been watching our LHM video series, we’ve had some pretty amazing people and it’s no different for this session. This week’s special guest was Amy Vernon. Amy is truly a formidable woman, community builder, mentor & speaker.

Before you click on the video below, let me say working as an online community manager is not as easy as most would like to think. Actually, I’ll have to make one of those meme cards in order to emphasize the misconceptions or maybe the perceptions of the world at large. Most think you sit around Facebook, and do nothing all day but maybe chat with friends/family who have no clue what you do. In my humble opinion one of the most important characteristic of being a community manager is to be comfortable in one’s skin. As a community manager you will do at least fifty things in any given day, so what you do is not as important as how you do it. That’s what separates the leaders from the followers.

Needless to say it was a pleasure having Amy on this past week, her insight and years of experience on how to build communities make her well worth listening to. Okay, I’ll admit it’s also a pleasure catching up with her since we don’t always have the time… therefore, without further ado, enjoy the chat we had.
