Creating a Brand as a Startup

Every successful company has a clear and concise brand that is recognizable to the public. If you have a startup, it is your goal to develop a brand to address this issue. Your brand should have the propensity to be conveyed to the public simply by displaying a logo or a few words. The most successful companies, like Target, Coke, and Nike, do not even need words to convey their brand because it’s intrinsic.

In whatever you do, you need to remember to play to your strengths. Your brand will be strengthened if you continue to highlight what you do best. Here’s what you need to know if you’re creating a brand as a startup.

Consider Your Business Name

When you create your business name, you need to come up with a name that speaks volumes about, not only your product, but how you conduct business. The most successful businesses choose concise names that are easy to remember, like Coke and Nike.

Select the Names of Your Products or Services Carefully

Your products should have names that are catchy and easy to remember. For instance, you should choose the name for your product that can easily be used in a household to capture its members’ attention. For instance, when you hear the word “Snuggie,” you automatically get an image of a warm, blanket-like cover-up.

Consider the Slogan You Use

Your slogan can also be a part of creating your brand image. “Just Do It” says volumes about the Nike brand. People have grown to trust slogans like, “Have a Coke and a Smile,” and this is why it’s so important to consider the type of slogan you use.

Design Your Logo 

Design your logo so that it’s recognizable by anyone who views it a glance. Is there anyone who couldn’t tell you that a “red bullseye logo” is a part of a Target advertisement? Sure, there are some, but the vast majority knows it’s a logo for Target. Your logo should communicate that quality is always delivered by your company.

Whereas, a company like Google may get more customers from dressing casually. The company’s ethos will determine how dress affects your startup.

How Your Product Should Be Priced and Packaged

Your product should be priced and packaged reasonably to help build your brand image. Customers buy more when they feel as though they are not being robbed at the checkout counter. A good deal can generate more sales.

How Your Company’s Website is Presented

Your company’s website can play a huge role in how your company is perceived. If your website is professional, loads fast, and has good information, then your company will probably be perceived in a more positive light.

Brand values should establish your strengths and deliver on your promises. To create a positive brand, you should always match your brand values to your customer requirements.

Part of creating a positive brand also involves meeting and exceeding brand promises. If you fail once, you will damage your brand. If you’re continually looking for ways to make improvements, you’ll always find new opportunities for growth. Your customers are another source for finding new opportunities.

Keep in mind that as long as you are consistent and offer good customer service, you’ll develop a positive brand image. You should be thorough and ensure that all systems support your brand. And last but not least, make certain that your employees are on board with your brand and ensure that they believe in what they are selling.
