May is one of my favorite times of the year…Can’t believe we’re on our 10th nominee of the Top SEO women 2013. Hers, is a name everyone in the SEO industry can recognize. She’s been busy with Link Fish Media since 2003. If you haven’t taken the time to read her bio, here’s an excerpt I found amusing. “Her mood depends upon the humidity and she enjoys cannibal movies and Swedish crime novels.” Seriously, you can’t make this up. Another fantastic TOP SEO nominee for you to know. Keep in mind, it’s a pleasure and always an honor sharing these great women with you. But now without further ado, let me introduce you to this week’s #TSW2013.Julie-Joyce

1. What’s your personal elevator pitch? What should we know about who you are and what you do?

I like Mexican food, Scandinavian mysteries, The Clash, and cop shows. I fuss a lot about link building but it’s what I think about for a minimum of 12 hours a day. I own a link building company so it’s not illegal.

2. Which area of SEO or online marketing in general do you focus on primarily?

Link building is what my agency specializes in but my training is in old-school SEO. I actually prefer proper SEO to link building about half the time (but that could be because I do it less) and get overly excited about audits. I LOVE audits. I love digging into anything whether it’s a bad link profile, a great one, or something vague where I get to feel like one of the detectives on Law and Order.

3. Which is the most exciting or most boring to you?

Link building is both, honestly. It can be so tedious that I want to poke my eyeballs out, and some of the less offensive methods can take ages to show results. As an impatient person, that really bugs me. I do get very happy when I have a client who is willing to explore some crazy ideas, and that’s when link building gets the most exciting.

4. Is there an area that you’d love to dive into more?

Analytics, definitely. I know my way around enough to be able to do what clients want me to do, but I’d really like to have the time to get more familiar with tracking conversions from the links we build.

5. We’d love to know more about the personal you (without being too nosy). What area of the world do you live in, or want to live in?

I’m in North Carolina, halfway between the mountains and the ocean, neither of which I ever seem to visit. I’d love to live in New York City because you can get amazing bagels, they have a subway, and the energy there is just amazing. Second choice is probably Copenhagen but if someone offered me the chance to move to Crete and be able to swim to work, I’d take it.

6. What are some of your quirks; what fuels your fire?

I have this weird fast-forward flash thought process that occurs whenever I have to trust someone to do something…I see every single way they could possibly mess it up and I am a bit gleeful when they do mess it up. It’s kind of funny at times but it makes me a control freak and perpetually dissatisfied with how everyone else does things. I get violent thoughts when I go to a coffee shop or restaurant and the person waiting on me doesn’t speak but stares blankly at me. I get massively excited when a favorite writer has a new book out. I live for springtime because Cadbury Creme Eggs come out and I buy them in bulk. I get happy when my children make puns that are so witty they could have been in Monty Python, and I love it when my bloodhound howls like mad and the chickens are outside clucking like crazy and people walk by the house and gape at it. I don’t need anything big to be happy really. I get happy and excited about the small stuff.
