General SEO FAQ

What is SEO?

SEO is “Search Engine Optimization”. With the millions of sites and online businesses out there, almost everyone has competition. Much of that competition comes from sites using similar words to describe services/products.

SEO uses techniques designed to build up your site based on terms visitors would look for if searching for your product/service. The purpose is to make sure your site gets seen on the search engines above the competition for terms related to your business. By improving your site visibility, you ensure more traffic to your site. By having more traffic to your site, you raise the possibility that visitors convert to paying customers.

Why would I want SEO?

Every online business has a competitor; most have thousands, if not millions of competitors. Even if you have a local business, your site has to compete with others around the world to be visible in the search engines.

Times have changed. Search engines like Google and Bing have become the new phone books. Millions of people look online every day to find products and services. SEO helps your site be found in the biggest phone book in the world.

How can I tell if I need SEO for my website?

A good indication for needing optimization is if your site has been up for at least four months and you haven’t had any traffic. Likewise, if your website is getting ready to launch or is brand new, this is the best time for optimization.

What is the optimization process?

The optimization process includes several steps on the outset, and then continual upkeep. These steps include, but aren’t limited to:

  • Keyword research
  • Competitor analysis
  • Site analysis and audit
  • On page optimization
  • Strategy development
  • Content development
  • Linkbuilding
  • Monitoring, analyzing, adjusting
