Honoring Women Wednesday, meet Shana Bull

Honoring Women Wednesday – Meet Shana Bull

I read somewhere, she's in love with rosé, session craft beers, trekking with her husband and red headed toddler on food adventures.

I’ve never had the pleasure of meeting her, but what I’ve seen has been awesome. She’s a smart, witty writer who delves into social media, wine, parenting, travel, not in that order… if you’re not following her, you’re missing out on great resources!

What’s your personal elevator pitch? What should we know about who you are and what you do?

Hey there, my name is Shana Bull, or @sharayray if you see me online. I’m a children’s book author, freelance writer, and marketing educator who is passionate about helping to normalize conversations around mental health and helping small business owners & marketers build their confidence with social media. Especially working moms. I love elaborate cheese boards, low-alcohol wines, and planning food adventures with my family.

Which social media platform is your jam? How do you share your industry knowledge with your audience?

Currency I can be found sharing social media tips for building confidence by creating social media content on Instagram and talking about mom burnout and parenting humor on TikTok.

We’d love to know more about the personal you. What area of the world do you live in, or want to live in; what are some of your quirks; what fuels your fire?

I’ve lived in various parts of the San Francisco Bay area for most of my life. I currently live in the East Bay, and as we feel safer venturing out in public, we are exploring restaurants, breweries, and playgrounds all over the area.

I’ve always been attracted to experiences. And why certain places just feel like home right off the bat.

I’m a sucker for low alcohol wines and beers, and a creative plant-based menu item (bonus points if there are pickled onions or avocado).

Is there any advice that you would share with women who are trying to build a career in the marketing industry?

A key factor in the success of my business has been networking, developing and maintaining relationships.

In the beginning of my career, I would say yes to almost any free networking event or lunch with a colleague. And then anytime I would meet someone at an event I would follow up with them on social media (Twitter, LinkedIn or Instagram) and continue that relationship. I would comment on their content and ask them questions.

Over the years, I’ve worked with some marketing agencies again and again, and coworkers have become clients, clients have helped me with word of mouth, and clients have become friends. And many of those friends have become the best customers of my children’s books now that I have those available.

Tell us where we can find you online and include information about any specific project that you are building and want people to know about.

I can be found as sharayray on Twitter, Instagram and ShanaBull dot com. Currently, I am writing my first marketing how-to book, which I will say — this one takes a lot more mental energy to write than the children’s books.

As always, it’s refreshing to see how busy mothers, manage their careers, love of writing and life to make things look so easy! Stay tuned, for next week’s Honoring Women Wednesday Feature!
