It’s March 31st, which means National Women’s History Month is coming to a close. What a perfect time to talk about our 2012 Top SEO Women awards 2010, 2011! First, though, an introduction for the top 2012 SEO women nominees – add your voice now!
Interesting Facts About Women Online
A while back, we came across some amazing statistics. As women, they made us feel all warm and fuzzy in side. As marketers, these statistics made us set up and pay attention. The foundation of these statistics is… (drum roll please) women rule the Internet.
Now, the last thing we want to do, especially on a post about the Top SEO Women of 2012, is wave the whole “race of the sexes” thing around. However, the statistics discussed in an article by Aileen Lee on Tech Crunch, Why Women Rule the Internet, are worth paying attention to.
Here’s an overview (you can read the whole article by clicking on the above link):
- The majority of social networking users are women
- Women spend 30% more time on these sites
- Women are responsible for 55% of mobile social network usage
- Gilt Groupe estimates women drive 74% of revenue to the company
- The U.S. Census says over 80% of consumer spending can be attributed to women
- When it comes to the consumer web of the likes of Facebook, Zynga, Groupon and Twitter, women are the majority of users
In fact, the sites listed above, as well as Opentable, Yelp, Docstoc, Flickr, Myspace, Ning, Bebo and others, women rule the space. In online marketing, social media marketing and SEO, women are slowly but surely taking over spaces traditionally “ruled” by men.
We now return to our regularly scheduled program…

All of these women have already been recognized, simply by the great comments included with some of the nominations. Not only has she consistently expanded her knowledge about SEO Best Practices in the last 10+years , she generously shares her information at no cost to new and wannabe copywriters, enriching our knowledge base. So, having said that my top 3 are.
Hey Susan, did you mean to add more to your comment?
What? No Linda Bustos, Ann Smarty or Laura Callow?
Apparently some people don’t read the links we include in our posts… just saying This is our third Top SEO Women. Some of these women have already been given the honor and kudos. The first one was in 2010 The tip of the iceberg Then we had another round of women In our Top SEO women 2011 I’m sure there will be many more… especially with all these wonderful responses and appreciation for women in the industry!
Thank you very much, I’m honoured to be listed alongside these ladies! The nomination alone is my own personal #win ;0) Thank you

We appreciate your enthusiasm for your favorites – BUT lol
Please hold your votes until the nomination period is over and the polls are over
Per favore tenete i vostri voti fino a quando le nomine non sono terminate
Have patience – the polls will be up Monday, May 2nd!
My vote is for CHIARA MARSELLA, my great sensei! 😉
Thank you to all who have posted their nominations. We’ve added the names of the women on our 2010 and 2011 Top SEO Women list for easy referral. Because we recognize that some SEOs are more well known than others – and so may always make the top list – we will not be including the women who’ve already made the 2010 and 2011 lists for the next year.
For this reason and this reason only, Nichola Stott and Debra Mastaler will not be in the polls this year. I’m sure, however, that both women would enjoy knowing they made the nominee list twice. 🙂
For those of you who nominated Gabriella Sannino, thank you so much for including her in this fantastic list of SEO women. However, we’re staying of the fray – people might question what either of our names were doing on a recognition list we created.
We have an outstanding list of 29 women to vote for once the polls come out. For those of you who provided email addresses, we will update you when the polls come out.
Now – we’ve been receiving comments that we consider spam for this program. For instance, five comments from the same IP address within a few minutes is a hint. It’s disappointing, to say the least. All of these women have already been recognized, simply by the great comments included with some of the nominations. Spamming to get them voted higher is cheap and tawdry.
Due to the amount of spam, we have been forced to delete several comments. Please be aware that, as our comment guidelines clearly define, we actively moderate this blog. Suspicious activity WILL BE deleted.
Happily, this won’t be a problem once the polls come out; merely during the nomination phase.
Again, to all of you, thank you for your nominations and participating in the 2012 Top Women of SEO awards!

Wow! What a list of ladies.
It’s a very tough call to select just one. However, since that is the task at hand, I select Heather Llyod-Martin. Not only is she a pioneer in the field of SEO, she continues to evolve and educate others by sharing her time and talent. Creating the SEO Copywriter certification program to help stabilize and strengthen the marketplace was just her latest long term move to define an industry that continues to evolve.
While the other nominees are very worthy and accomplished in there own right, I have to tip my hat to Heather.
Thanks for putting on the vote and recognizing these ladies as well. Terrific idea.
Yes, certainly agree with Barry on his first three nominations:
