Content is King… But What’s Content?

Content helps define who we are and how we communicate with the world around us. In the past decade or so, content has become even more important with the emergence of semantic search.

Content is King because it is the basis for search engine optimization (SEO) and plays an important role in boosting a website’s visibility. Content is information that is published online, such as websites, articles, blog posts, videos and audio recordings. Having quality content on a website can help increase its ranking in search engine results pages (SERPs).

Content is seen as powerful because it helps to establish trust and authority between the website owner and visitors. It also helps to build relationships with customers by providing them with relevant information about their interests. With content, people are more likely to return to a website if they find useful information that meets their needs.

Semantic Search is the Future

With the rise of semantic search engines like Google, content has become even more important for businesses seeking to gain an edge over their competitors. Semantic search has changed how we view content by not only focusing on key words but also taking into account the context of searches. This means that Google understands user queries better when there is higher semantic richness associated with them. Semantic search relies heavily on natural language processing (NLP) which enables algorithms to understand synonyms, homonyms and polysemy better than ever before.

As a result of semantic search, webpages need to be more specific in order to rank well in SERPs. Websites must have high-quality content that provides value to readers while also being optimized for SEO purposes.

Content is Now Visual

This means creating content that focuses on topics or keywords related to the subject matter being discussed while at the same time providing detailed information with facts and resources which support any claims made within the article or post. Additionally, publishers should include visuals such as images or videos which can make content easier to understand while giving readers something new and interesting every time they visit a page.

By delivering high-quality content filled with interesting facts, visuals and quality sources, websites will not only appeal more strongly to their target audience but also increase their chances of ranking higher on SERPs due to its relevance for semantic searches. Quality content establishes trust between visitor and publisher which can lead to repeat visits as well as conversions from potential customers into actual customers for businesses looking for growth through online channels. This makes Content King – no matter what type of business you run or how big it is – leveraging good quality content will always be essential for success online!

Content – Everybody Wants It

SEOs that write blogs and articles on optimization push for it. Google says ranking is all about good, relevant, engaging content. So you think, “Sure. I can do that.” You start writing (or hire someone to write) pages upon pages of content, put it up on your site and wait for traffic to come rolling in… and nothing happens.

What gives? How come it’s not working? Is everyone full of it? Do we, as SEO service providers, not understand what the people and search engines really want? Most importantly, is content REALLY king?

Yes… yes it is. However, you may be getting mixed messages about what, exactly, content is. So let’s lay it out.

What IS Content?

If you look it up in the dictionary, content is described as:

Something contained, as in a receptacle. Often used in the plural: the contents of my desk drawer; the contents of an aerosol can.

Basically, this means “stuff”. So content is really nothing more than the “stuff” you put on your website.

The Many Types of Content

Where many optimizers go wrong in their helpful blogs and articles is putting an emphasis on written content. There are several types of content, that can be used to bring traffic to your website when used correctly.

  • Written content – Yes, written content is the favorite form for SEOs, because search engines have no way of understand the content in images, videos or audio files. We push the written word, explaining how to write it for SEO and visitors, often to the extreme.
  • Image content – Too many sites and blogs say, “don’t use images”. Instead, they should say, “don’t use just images”. If you use images as your sole source of content, you may end up with traffic and ranking issues. However, nothing says you can’t use images with the written word. Use the written word to support the images or vice versa. An ALT attribute can be added to any image to support the written word. While users can’t see it, search engines can. Therefore, if all you use is images for the visitor (rather than supporting the images with written content), using the supporting ALT attribute for the search engines.
  • Video and audio content – There’s no doubt that video and audio content can enhance the visitor’s experience. For search engines, however, you might as well have a blank page with nothing more than navigation. If you keep in mind that you may have deaf individuals visiting your site, the fix becomes clear. Share the video for your hearing visitors, but also add a transcript for the hearing impaired. In this way, you make your site available to the hearing impaired and give the search engine crawlers something to crawl besides a few lines of video/audio code.

Quality Content is King

In addition, quality content offers users a unique experience. For example when clients are engaging with your product or service offered by your business it shows that you are not just trying to sell something but providing useful material that can benefit them in some way – be it informative articles about current trends within your industry or helpful tutorials about optimizing certain processes related to your products/services etc., all quality content should engage visitors and make them more likely to come back again then convert into customers down the line!

Conclusion

All this shows why Content is King – providing quality readable material that not only helps optimize websites for increased search engine ranking but also offers value for users engaging with your products/services thus leading businesses closer towards conversions!

Unless something changes in the search engine algorithms to make it possible for crawlers to understand the content of a video, audio file or image and understand their relevance to a search term, written content will always be important. However, when adding content to your site, remember that it doesn’t all have to be written. There are choices and different methods to make your site attractive to both your visitors and the search engines!

  1. written content must be written by copywriter who knows SEo rules and knows how to link images and develop media etc. I think seo has become an art of different techniques recently and adding those features to page does not guarantee visits on your page. You need the right mesure at the right ime.

  2. That explains really nice and easy what content is and what forms of content you can use. It’s so simple; a mixture of interesting and relevant written, graphic and video content is the key to get traffic. Hope bloggers read this and understand that it’s rather simple to make a great and successful blog and to get traffic! Thanks!

  3. What many businesses are doing to keep their content fresh is integrating social networking software into their sites. This gives them constant relevant user generated content that the search engines love. All the benefits, half the work!

  4. This article will certainly help people to refrain from writing irrevalant stuff in their blogs, and hopefully they will focus on quality rather than quantitiy.

    1. @omega shipping – I agree, but in defense of online/affiliate marketing, sometimes companies want to rank for certain keywords. What they do is hire someone without doing any industry research, with no knowledge of how to actually rank, and fall short of getting quality research. In order to write and compete with high ranking sites, people often forget to do the most basic thing: find out what their clients/ readers really want to know about. One way is to set up a Google alert for their industry. This not only lets them know what the buzz is about, but will also let them know what’s been said about their site, and what their competitors are doing. Thanks for dropping by!
